As part of the selection process, visits to sites that each firm worked on are being conducted.  On Tuesday, August 2, Julie Bartley, Scott Bur, Jeff Dahlseid, and Jim Dontje accompanied Chris Chivetta (Principle-in-charge) of Hastings + Chivetta on a visit to Hanover College’s Science Center.  This $21.4 million project was and add/renovate where 80,000 sq ft of new space was added and the existing approximately 41,500 sq ft of existing space was substantially renovated.  The extremely low floor-to-floor height in the existing building, it was impossible to build the new space to match the floor-to-floor height without causing serious problems.  The transition between the two buildings, while not seamless, was fairly unobtrusive.  The unique feature of this particular project was both the quantity and quality of display space.  A retired faculty member took responsibility for curation, and the result is a well maintained  set of displays.  As with the Centre project, the facade was done in a colonial motif to match the campus master plan.
